Rights and Freedoms
Freedom
Pirates were most commonly free men, apart from the loyalty to their crews and the fact that authorities were after them. They would roam the seas and do whatever they wanted, stealing many valuable treasures from various places. Obviously piracy is illegal, so they actually did not have a right to be terrorising other ships and stealing, and the punishment would be a hanging, but pirates did not let this stop them because it was not too likely that they would get caught. Pirates were very careful when they came into town to trade. They knew how to hide and cover up their tracks.
Rights of the 1600-1800
Women’s rights
Women of this time did not have the right to may things such as:
- The right to vote
- The right to an education
- Choice of job opportunities
- Marriage, once married women did not have legal status as it went to their husbands.
Due to these lack of rights people left England in the early eighteen hundreds to go United States of America for more freedom in religion and to not have to be under the rule of George III.
