Pirates were feared by many exploring nations that tried to safely transport goods. Many pirates from the golden age (1500’s-1600s) were used as myths and legends from later pirates in the 1800s. Pirates would win their victory by a large success in raiding a ship with large amounts or cargo, e.g. gold, silk, spices, meat or fresh produce. Their names would be spread throughout the seas because of their great find. Just like a game of Chinese whispers, many pirates could have twisted the story or exaggerated the story and made into some kind of myth that many pirates feared.
